China must slow down
by Zivka Deleva

The consumer price index is almost 5.0 percent year-over-year growth rate in November in China. Economists estimate that the fastest growing country in the world must slow down its inflation. While the numbers for the 2011 year in the reach countries say that they will improve their economies for 2.2 percent, it is expected that China will go ahead for 9.6 percent. This month it is expected that the import growth has overrated the exports in November. But, unlike these numbers, the total volume of goods that are exporting is still overcoming those that are imported. According to the economists, China’s policy is to hold down its currency just to get a trade adva! ntage. And it is not like Chinese politicians aren’t aware what they should do something with the situation and the yuan. “Prudent” monetary policy and “proactive” fiscal policy are the basic orientation for the financial government to be faced to. It is also expected that China will raise its interest rates but no one can talk about numbers. The inflation has already covered more fields in the China people living. "Nonetheless, the government exit from the stimulus cycle is expected to be quite calculated and smooth as the policymakers try to avoid a hard landing" – said Xianfang Ren, an economist with HIS Global Insight in Beijing. The European Union has a big benefit from the trade collaboration with China. The difference between the import and export is huge. Nearly 215 billion euros counter 80 billion euros – goes for the import and export and that is almost three to one. The United States of America notified huge deficit d! ue to the China economical improvement.

Worries about Portuguese debt increasing send US stocks down
by Zuzana Zelenakova

As the European stocks declined at the end of the last week Wall Street followed them Tuesday. Behind the downfall there are concerns about some EU member states not being able to repay their debt. Also, the fact that North and South Korea got involved in a military incident contributed. “After Ireland, Portugal is a likely candidate for aid with Spain close behind,” John Plassard, head of European equities at Louis Capital Markets LP, said. “Amid these problems, the geopolitical problem between the two Koreas is the cherry on the cake in a bad week.” There is also the case of the irish bailout where many fear that $117 billion financial aid package! might not be enough to prevent eurozone from completely crumbling down. "The concern really now is who is next and what does the bailout mean for European monetary policy," said Paul Nolte, managing director at Dearborn Partners. "This has been an ongoing theme all year. We started out with Greece and we've moved to Ireland and now the focus is shifting to some of the other 'weak sisters' and Portugal is next up on everybody's radar." The euro fell below $1.30 mainly due to uncertainties over possible financial aid from the European Union and the International Monetary Fund as far as Portugal is concerned. US markets closed Tuesday with The Dow Jones Industrial Average down 39.51 points, or 0.36 percent. The worst was the case for technology companies such as Hewlett-Packard that fell 1.4 percent or IBM down 0.7 percent. The Nasdaq Composite fell 9.32 points, or 0.37 percent, to 2525.22 while Standard and Poor slipped 1.64 points, or 0.14 percent, to 1187.76. At the end of! the day financial and energy sectors were among those who man! aged to rebound.

FBI raids 3 hedge funds in an ongoing insider trading investigation
by Zuzana Zelenakova

Suspicions of pervasive insider trading were the reason behind the recent FBI raids on hedge funds on Wall Street. The raids of three hedge funds including Diamond Capital Management LLC, Level Global Investors LP (both Connecticut funds run by former managers of Steve Cohen´s SAC Capital Advisors) and Boston-based Loch Capital Management gave an impression that federal investigator were worried the evidence could be destroyed. Another purpose was to send out a warning that there is a serious prosecution going on. "I think there is a desire to send a message to people who are not currently the target of criminal investigations that there is a cost to engaging in this ! type of potentially criminal behavior," said Ross Gaffney, once a FBI agent now working for consulting firm Gaffney Gallagher Phillip. Most experts agree on the fact that the main point of the search warrants was to simply scare people. Series of new insider trading cases is expected to be unveiled most probably by the end of the year. Definitely, the federal action sent shivers running through hedge funds. It has been just more than a year since the biggest probe of insider trading at hedge funds in the United States when Galleon hedge fund was charged with conspiracy and security fraud. 23 company executives were charged back then including the hedge fund´s founder Raj Rajaratnam. Now back to the new investigation that could take weeks or months even. "This is not standard operating procedure in a white-collar case," said Ellen Zimiles, a former federal prosecutor who heads global investigations and compliance at Navigant Consulting. "The fact that three entities we! re searched at the same time could mean investigators believe ! there is a connection, or this is a larger investigation. This is a very clear warning shot."

FBI prehľadala sídla troch investičných fondov
by Zuzana Zelenakova

No a teraz späť k najnovšiemu vyšetrovaniu, ktoré by mohlo trvať týždne no i mesiace. „Nejde o štandardný postup v takomto prípade,“ povedal Ellen Zimiles, bývalý federálny žalobca, ktorý v súčasnosti pracuje pre Navigant Consulting. „Fakt, že tri fondy boli prehľadané v rovnaký čas naznačuje, že vyšetrovatelia si mysli, že tu existuje nejaké spojenie, alebo ide o súčasť rozsiahlejšieho vyšetrovania. V každom prípade je to jasný varovný signál.“

Fed to buy government bonds
by Milota Sidorova

Some analysts said that the reason why Democrats lost past days in Congressional elections was the unemployment. And it is more than considerable that this word is moving policies, public opinions and financial markets. In order to „boost“ the economy that consists also of this unemployment factor, Federal Reserve has announced it would buy $600 billion of government bonds. Fed suggests that it should keep lower interest rates and increase the number of job positions. But at the same time there is no complete agreement even inside Fed. Athough the step to invest into government bonds was agreed on Wednesday by majority of the board, Thomas Hoenig, president of t! he Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City anticipated the move that was according to him „too risky“. The general plan or projection is that Fed is going to buy bonds at a rate of about $75 billion a month until the middle of 2011. The move should be reflected by easier to get loans for banks and businesses. But there is no guarantee that it will really force people to spend more money – since long term projections suggest people have been unwilling to buy and spend more past months and that Fed has already done a chain of „economy boosting“ steps. So far, not a big change. Hoenig is not the only one who is fearing Fed is going to increase inflation istead of the economy. The possible scenario is that Fed is going to flood the economy with hundreds of billions of dollars that were immediatelly printed and it will lower the value of dollar. The green paper has been already on the way down. Fed's chairman however said those „fears were overblo! wn“. Markets reacted with slight growth with Dow Jones I! ndustria l finishing up 26 points about 0.25 percent point at 11,215.13.

U.S asks for G20 friends help
by Zivka Deleva

I am fed up with the United States wishes! Have you ever heard of some other country looking for something so much than the U.S.? I know I am being weight too ironalical, but it is always the world policemen to ask others to do something in their favor. This time, U.S official has provoked the Group of 20 countries, or globally popular G20, of the economically most powerfull countries in the world, to allow the currencies to rise more freely. This comes not by hazard at the moment, G20 finance ministers are going to gather in Gyeongju, South Korea exactly this weekend. The currencies must be discussed more, think Treasury Department officials. This provokation came after c! hineas yuan has frightened U.S.dollar. The financial game that China is so well playing has made the States angry few months ago and though politicians have tried to find themselves partners in mind, they didn't succeed to do a lot in that. The global currency tension rose. I am not saying that Americans are doing something wrong at the moment, but how come, it is always their concern about everything? U.S. financial policy is the most afraid of the "competitive nonappreciation". I kind of understand the fear, because China is knock-down-drag-out! The idea would be to agree to a pre-set limit on the size a country's current account surplus or deficit should reach, expressing it in terms of a percentage of national output, in economical terms. The dollar has noted one of the big fall. That's why a lot of investors have searched for another markets to put their money on, like Brazil, for example. As far as the G20 is concerned, the United States swear by this organization. T! hey have big expectations that what they can not solve on thei! r own, t he "friends of the band" would be able to do.
