Dupa ce la inceputul anului au existat zvonuri ca Countrywide Financial Corp. va da faliment, marti chestiunea a revenit in discutie. Cel mai mare debitor de ipoteci al tarii si-a publicat profitul de pe primul trimestru care a fost foarte dezamagitor si a indicat o pierdere de $893 milioane. In ianuarie Wall Street Journal si The New York Times a mentionat ca Banca Americii a facut o oferta de cumparare de $4 miliarde in actiuni lui Countrywide. Totusi, informatia nu a fost niciodata confirmata nici de banca nici de debitor. Daca este adevarat, atunci banca se va confrunta cu multele probleme ale lui Countrywide. In ciuda previziunii directorului executiv Angelo Mozilo, debitorul de ipotecii nu a reusit sa faca profit in 2008. Cauzele au fost o piata imobiliara precare si imprumuturile nereturnate care erau in principal in sectorul ipotecilor. Dintre imprumuturi 39 la suta depaseau termenul de 90 de zile. Nu este deci surprinzator ca profitul a scazut 72 de procente si actiunile au cazut la $5.63 si asta chiar dup ace in al patrulea trimestru au avut pierderi de $422 de milioane. Haideti sa aruncam o privire si asupra partii bune unde se remarca o crestere de 27 de procente in aplicatiile pentru credit ipotecar si profiturile dinainte de taxe de $232. Ramane un mister daca Countrywide va da sau nu faliment sau va fi achizitionat de Banca Americii. Intre timp, este sigur ca avea multe greutati si un nor negru atarna deasupra lui.
